A statement from Iroquois Healthcare Association president and CEO Kevin M. Kerwin

The US Senate reconciliation bill will impact the healthcare landscape in Upstate and rural New York. So today, IHA releases the following statement, strongly urging New York representatives to carefully consider how the bill will impact their constituents.

STATEMENT

Hospitals across Upstate and rural New York are already operating under financial strain. With nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, this bill will obliterate access to healthcare forcing essential programs to be cut and threatening permanent closure of facilities. The proposed $25 billion rural hospital stabilization fund falls far short of offsetting the wide-ranging harm the bill would cause. Do not be fooled, facilities will close and there are broader consequences beyond the loss of access to healthcare. Whole communities and their local economies will be shattered by the loss of jobs and the economic anchor that hospitals in Upstate and rural New York provide.

Nothing good comes from voting yes on this bill. We urge all New York representatives to carefully consider the far-reaching impact of this legislation on New York’s healthcare system and the Upstate communities that depend on it.
