PUBLISHER’S NOTE: Summer Guide, 32 Years and Counting

Got a call from us regarding advertising in the Summer Guide? If not, we hope you will very soon.

We’re currently reaching out to businesses across the region to invite them to advertise in the 32nd edition of Summer Guide: The Best of Upstate New York.

The publication focuses on what summer is all about — highlighting the most interesting events in Upstate New York, the most exciting places to go, the best lakes to visit, concerts to attend and trails to hike.

We distribute  40,000 copies of the guide. It’s a glossy, colorful publication with a polished design, distributed throughout the region. Last year’s Summer Guide topped 108 pages, a record for us.

Advertising in the Summer Guide simply makes sense. Ad rates are relatively low, design is included at no cost, and the publication remains available all season long. As we often tell prospective advertisers: you advertise once and get results all summer.

This time of year is especially important for advertising. People are eager to get out, explore, and enjoy the outdoors — and the region sees a major influx of visitors during the summer months.

While Facebook, Instagram and other digital platforms are useful advertising tools, the bottom line is this: a well designed, glossy print publication is hard to beat.

The Summer Guide has an estimated readership of more than 250,000, and its website — www.cnysummer.com — typically receives about 10,000 unique visits per month during the summer season.

Local businesses consistently see strong results from advertising in the guide, which is why many return year after year. Advertisers make the magazine possible, allowing us to print and distribute it free of charge across the region.

In addition to print exposure, advertisers benefit from online visibility. We upload a digital version of the guide to www.cnysummer.com and hyperlink every ad, so readers can click directly from the publication to an advertiser’s website. It’s a feature our advertisers — and readers — love.

One reason the Summer Guide has remained popular for more than three decades is simple: readers love it. Travelers and locals alike pick up copies wherever they find them. We restock our drop off locations two—and sometimes three—times each month.

If visitors are anything like me, the first thing they look for is local information about what to see and do. Even in the digital era, that approach still works.

So if you haven’t received a call from us yet, feel free to reach out.

We’d be happy to create an ad design that delivers your message to thousands upon thousands of readers—and helps generate extra business during the busiest season of the year.
