Surviving the First Years

By Mary Beth Roach

Approximately 20-25% of new businesses in the US fail within their first year. This means that roughly 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 new businesses does not survive past their first year of operation.

The following profiles offer just a glimpse as to some of the new businesses that have launched or celebrated grand openings in the past two years.

They show such a wide variety of goods and services — those highlighting technological advances and manufacturing; a business providing a vital need in the community; one that offers a new way to shop; one that helps people relax and enjoy the area’s beautiful waterways; and one that helps families with that American dream of home ownership.

They also show the entrepreneurial spirit is thriving in Central New York.
