Q: What kind of business are you starting?
A: I am starting my own hair salon suite at Riverwalk
Q: Have you had any experience in this field before?
A: Yes, I worked at Port City Day Spa [until the end of April]. I’ve been doing hair for a long time. I was with Port City Day Spa for 13, almost 14 years. This is the first time being out on my own. I just started my own LLC and all that stuff. I’m learning all the things that come with that.
Q: How many years have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing hair since I graduated in 2007, so almost 18 years.
Q: Are you looking forward to being on your own?
A: Yes, for sure! I’m ready to be on my own. I really like it here. I think the location is key. Even though I am just across the river from where I was, it’s like a whole other world. So I feel like the location is perfect. I have a lot of clients that work on this side of town. So a lot of them are like ‘I can just walk to you this is great.’
Q: How much have you had to invest in all of this?
A: I’m not really sure what those numbers are quite yet — because I am still doing it.
Q: Is anyone helping you get started?
A: No, not really It’s just pretty much me by myself.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am originally from Geneseo. I went to college at Monroe Community College in Rochester and met my fiancé and he’s from Oswego. So we landed here.
Q: Do you plan to expand after you get going?
A: I plan to be just by myself for a while. Maybe down the road I will expand. That would be something to consider. But for right now I am really enjoying my own space. I just rent a room at Riverwalk — in between the bagel shop and the coffee shop.
Q: When did you officially start?
A: May 1. I already had my clients scheduled back in April. It’s still a little bit of a work in progress. I am still working on my booking. I don’t have a website. My social media is kind of my marketing.
