King Me, it’s Salmon Season on the Salmon River

By Jim Sollecito

Fall is for planting for me and also fly-fishing on the famous Salmon River.

No question the lack of rainfall has changed the usual “run” into “spurts,” but someone turned the switch on and it is happening right now!

Take a ride around Oswego County, imbibe in the fall colors, taste the outdoor chicken BBQs on Route 13, delight with some Amish baked goods on 264. Stop in Pulaski, Pineville or Altmar and stare into the water as you witness one of the great nautical migrations nature has to offer. Do it before winter starts closing in and you’ll make some warm memories.

And for the record, I caught this 29-pound King Salmon on my 8-weight fly rod, one of 12 for the day.
