Kevin Shutt has been named plant manager at Novelis Oswego Works, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling.

Shutt brings 25 years of experience with Novelis to his new role overseeing operations at the Oswego plant. It produces more than a billion pounds of aluminum sheet each year and employs more than 1,100 people.

Shutt has served as the hot mill manufacturing unit manager for Novelis Oswego Works for the past three years. Prior to this role, Shutt held a variety of leadership positions in technical, continuous improvement, reliability and engineering for more than 20 years at Logan Aluminum, a Novelis joint venture based in Kentucky, and at Novelis North America’s headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.

Shutt replaces Chris Smith, who is retiring after 30 years with Novelis and who has served as plant manager at Novelis Oswego Works since 2013.

Oswego Works represents Novelis’ flagship facility in North America. Equipped for aluminum scrap re-melting, ingot casting and hot and cold rolling, Novelis Oswego Works generates aluminum products used primarily by the beverage can, building and construction and automotive markets, and in multiple industrial product applications.

Over the past five years, Novelis has invested more than $400 million in three automotive finishing lines and an automotive scrap aluminum-recycling center at its Oswego facility, which in turn has created more than 430 new jobs.

Novelis plans to create an additional 250 jobs in Oswego by the year 2020.
