Chamber to Feature Annual Small Business Week Breakfast
Retail guru Cinda Baxter to serve as keynote speaker
Members of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce as well as business owners throughout the area are invited to hear one the country’s foremost retail experts at the chamber’s annual Small Business Week breakfast.
The event will be held at 7:30 a.m. May 21 at SUNY Oswego’s Hewitt Union Ballroom.
Cinda Baxter, a renowned business adviser and founder of the highly successful 3/50 Project, will be the keynote speaker.
Baxter followed her career as a special events coordinator for a number of professional sports teams in the NFL and NBA, as well as the PGA, by establishing an upscale stationery and gift boutique in Minneapolis, Minn.
After 14 years as a storeowner, and capturing two national Retailer Excellence Awards, Baxter began her career as a consultant and retail coach in 2007. Her single-minded purpose was to strengthen and support independent, brick and mortar businesses.
She is frequently sought out for her expertise and leadership and is an often-quoted small business expert for media outlets across the country.
She has also served as the featured speaker at numerous national conferences and trade shows, ranging from Hong Kong to High Point. Whether addressing an audience of small business owners or a keynote address to industry leaders, her focus remains constant: creating success for all parties concerned.
In founding The 3/50 Project, Baxter turned a simple concept into a viral campaign that netted more than 7,600 “absolute unique visitors” on its website and several times that many supporters nationwide in the first week.
Built on the tag line “Pick 3, spend 50, save your local economy,” the 3/50 Project as been hailed as an unprecedented success for “Buy Local” awareness.
Baxter’s efforts have inspired small business owners throughout the country to rise above the challenges of flailing economics while empowering consumers to create positive change by driving revenue back toward locally owned, independent brick and mortars.
“Cinda brings with her a wealth of retail knowledge,” said chamber executive director Beth Hilton. “In addition to her many achievements, she is also a social networking pioneer who has used social media to engage an audience; has taught business owners how to harness the power of the Internet; and launched three successful online communities to support storefront retailers.”
The breakfast is open to both chamber members as well as any non-members that would like to attend.
The event will feature a special “New York breakfast menu” consisting of food items produced in New York state including scrambled eggs made from local farm fresh eggs; home fries made from Hinerwadel's Grove potatoes; breakfast sausage from Bosco and Geers; cinnamon raisin bread from Ontario Orchards; whipped butter and vanilla yogurt from Upstate Farms; local fresh fruit and berries; as well as orange juice, coffee, decaf and assorted teas. The cost to attend the event is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
