House of Thai Closes Doors in Downtown Oswego

Cause of shutdown remains mystery
By Kory Johnson

A local restaurant stalwart, the House of Thai, has apparently closed its doors.

The phone number of the restaurant has been disconnected, and the front door of the business has been boarded up.

The restaurant, owned by Ithaca natives Teeranut (Mac) Roongsuwan and Khanitta Manoi, first opened in August of 2005 in the former Mojo’s building at 111 W. Second St.

The pair invested about $35,000 to start the restaurant.

The Thai-style food was a local favorite, especially for downtown merchants. Among the favorites were the curries and duck dishes.

“We were all regulars,” said River’s End Bookstore co-owner Bill Reilly. “We all look forward to them reopening, hopefully.”

Calls to the phone number for the Thai Garden in Ithaca, also owned by Roongsuwan and Manoi, revealed that number was either changed or disconnected.
