United Way’s Annual Campaign Surges Forward

Area businesses rally to make giving a fun experience

With the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s annual campaign reaching its midway point, executive director Melanie Trexler said employee campaign coordinators and the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet are working hard to ensure the success of this year’s campaign.

The campaign serves as a major fundraiser to help support the more than 30 human services programs offered through member agencies.

“These vital programs serve thousands of people throughout Oswego County from children to seniors. We are fortunate to be able to fund these programs and have such a positive impact on our county,” said Trexler.

“The effort we have seen from this year’s Campaign Cabinet has been truly inspirational. Under the direction of Jonathan Daniels of the Port of Oswego Authority, the Campaign Cabinet has been working diligently to ensure that this year’s annual campaign is a success.

“Our Campaign Cabinet has implemented and has been involved in a number of initiatives that have added a real boost to our campaign,” said Trexler.

As a result of their efforts, Cheap Seats Sports Bar and Grill in Oswego hosted a special fundraiser night for the United Way and is planning another in the near future; the SUNY Oswego men’s and women’s ice hockey teams will each host a United Way Night at their home games on Saturday to help raise awareness of the annual campaign and encourage their fans to help support the mission of the United Way throughout Oswego County; DuFore’s Jewelers has donated a half-carat diamond pendant that will be raffled off as a fund-raiser for the annual campaign; and a number of area businesses and individuals have donated a host of items to the incentive program.

The incentive program provides those who donate to their workplace campaign for the United Way the opportunity to win prizes such as gift cards to Canale’s Restaurant, Bosco & Geers Food Store, Burke’s Home Centers, Stability Fitness in Oswego, a ladies Citizen watch from DuFore’s Jewelers, gas cards to Stewart’s Shops of Oswego County, New York Mets tickets and more.

Members of the United Way’s Campaign Cabinet include Brian Finn of Entergy; campaign chairperson Jonathan Daniels of the Port of Oswego Authority; Rob Rolf of Pathfinder Bank; Dick Delaney of Novelis; and Maria Hudson.

Trexler added that on Saturday, to coincide with the United Way Night at the SUNY Oswego men’s ice hockey game, Lee Victory, owner of Cheap Seats Bar & Grill, will donate 20 percent of all proceeds from 4 p.m. to midnight that night to help support the campaign.

For more information on the campaign, or to make a donation, contact the United Way office at 593.1900.
