Bellow Appointed to Central Upstate Regional Alliance

Organization Seeks To Increase Role of Technology in Economy

    Nancy J. Bellow, executive director of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations and board president of Operation Oswego County (OOC), was recently appointed as a member of the Central Upstate Regional Alliance, a 12-county public/private consortium formed as a result of a regional strategy to accelerate the transformation of Central New York to a technology-driven economy. 

    The Central Upstate Regional Alliance is comprised of individuals from a variety of economic development, business and academic institutions across the Central New York region.  Participating counties include Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Seneca and Tompkins.  In addition to Bellow, representatives from Oswego County include President and CEO of Pathfinder Bank Thomas Schneider and OOC Executive Director L. Michael Treadwell.

    The Alliance engages in several strategies for achieving regional success including:

    • Aggressively targeting middle-market companies with high potential for expansion and supporting existing industries;
    • Optimizing key industry clusters;
    • Creating, retaining, and attracting talent in Central New York;
    • Leveraging colleges and universities as economic and community growth engines;
    • Encouraging the creation and growth of a stronger entrepreneurial culture; and
    • Developing a broader regional consciousness.
    As part of its mission to attract and retain talent in Central New York, the Alliance provides a free job search engine www.essentialnyjobs.com which identifies employment opportunities in the 12-county region.  In addition, the Alliance’s Project ION connects more than 2,000 students with internships throughout the region.

    The Alliance also sponsors the $100,000 Emerging Business Competition, the largest privately sponsored emerging business competition in the country which fosters entrepreneurship, innovation, and small business development.
