Some of the best and most caring healthcare professionals in Oswego County will be recognized in a special event in April.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Oswego Hospital have recently joined forces to sponsor the Third Annual Oswego County Healthcare Hero Awards.

Physicians, nurses, volunteers and other professionals will be chosen based on nominations from patients, colleagues and the general public. A panel with independent judges will evaluate each nomination and choose the winners.

Nomination forms have been widely distributed in the area and have been inserted in several newspapers. The nomination form is also available on the Web at OswegoCountyBusiness.com. Visitors should click on the top "Healthcare Hero" banner to get the form.

Among those who will be recognized are nurses, physicians, volunteers, chiropractors, physical therapists and other professionals who work in Oswego County. Deadline for submissions is Feb. 22.

"This is the third year we've organized the Oswego County Healthcare Hero Awards and I'm happy that Excellus and Oswego Health are supporting the event," said Wagner Dotto, publisher of Oswego County Business Magazine. "I expect a much higher turn out this year because of their support."

Last year more than 250 nominations were submitted and nearly 30 professionals were honored during a breakfast meeting. Laura Hand, the news anchor for WSTM Channel 3, host the event last year.

Honorees this year will again be recognized during a breakfast in April. A special April-May issue of Oswego County Business Magazine will carry a profile on each awardees.

"This is a great opportunity for people to recognize healthcare professionals," said Dotto. "These people work tirelessly to care for the population. This is a chance we have to recognize their services."
