Gov. Spitzer to Visit Northeast Biofuels Wednesday

Governor will tour facility, give briefing

    Gov. Eliot Spitzer is scheduled to make his first visit to Northeast Biofuels (NEB) in Volney at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Spitzer is expected to tour the facility and give a briefing to local media.

    Joining the governor will be NEB president Doug MacKenzie and Riverview developer Eric Will.

    Work continues in the retrofitting of the Miller Brewing plant. About 250 union construction workers are now on site. That number will increase to over 500 as construction ramps ups later this summer and fall. When completed, the site expects to produce 114 million gallons of ethanol per year. The plant is expected to produce its first ethanol in December, and will ramp up to full production in first quarter of 2008.

    New York State has provided assistance for the project, including a $4 million grant to assist with installation of NEB’s  thermal oxidizer and energy recovery systems. The project is also located in an Empire Development Zone.
