Announcement: Going Global Regional Conference July 24

Cortland conference to provide introduction to global market
By Press Release

The morning keynote speaker will be David Hempson, Senior Vice President, Marietta Corporation, who will tell the story of how Marietta grew, in just 30 years, from a small local venture to a global giant with operations in 88 countries around the world. “Going Global” will also feature expert speakers from across Upstate New York who will participate in panel sessions on the strategies, tools, and resources needed to expand into a global marketplace.

Attendees will be able to select two of four unique workshops to attend that morning with topics ranging from the “nuts and bolts” of going global, to the government programs and other resources that can help business expansion. Workshops will give entrepreneurs ideas about how to tap into global markets and expand their sales base, along with practical tips for navigating different cultures. The goal of the conference is to dispel the myth that developing international business connections is just for big companies. There are many small and mid-sized companies, including local family owned businesses, that have integrated global strategies to expand their bottom line. Selling globally applies to both products and services.

“To be a competitive economy, we need to both live locally and compete globally,” notes Linda Hartsock, BDC-IDA executive director. “Understanding opportunities beyond local boundaries is an essential growth strategy, as the world increasingly becomes borderless. Crafting a global strategy is essential to growth. It is a global supermarket. With modern technology, and currency exchange rates, there is no better time to learn how to get started. The goal of this conference is to connect local companies with international guides to help make those market connections.”
